The four children
Every Inkwren story exists in all four children, and every single-story download includes all four. Nobody has to guess which child to buy, a reader can find themselves in the set, and siblings or classmates can each have their own.
All four wear white low-top canvas sneakers. Their clothes, their hair and the rooms they move through stay exactly the same from the first page to the last — that consistency is the point, not the decoration.
Maya has medium-brown skin and dark curly hair gathered in a top bun. She wears a sage-green tee and light-blue jeans, with white low-top canvas sneakers — the same tee, the same jeans and the same sneakers on every page of every book she appears in.

Why it matters
A reader who is using the pictures to build a mental model of what is about to happen is reading the details, not skimming past them. If the child in the story has a different face on page four than on page three, the picture stops being evidence and starts being a puzzle.
